Please Note:
- ALL SPECIMENS MUST BE LEGALLY TAGGED, LICENSED, OR SEALED.
- Since we have no control over how quickly specimens were taken care of, all taxidermy and tanning work is done at the owner's risk. We are committed to excellence, but the quality of your mount can only be as good as the specimen itself when it arrives at our shop.
- Dragging deer, bear, or any wild game animal out of the woods with a 4-wheeler will damage the hair.
- Never cut the throat if you are planning on getting a shoulder mount, to ensure proper care of your trophy, it is best to call for special instructions.
Deer Hunters: When cutting off the antlers, be sure to leave plenty of skull, especially in the back of the head. Approximately 3 inches of thickness is recommended. When caping any animal for a shoulder mount, the cut behind the shoulder should include the full rib cage.
Bear Hunters: Be careful when cutting bear skulls off the carcass so that part of the skull does not get cut off. It's best to use a knife and cut through the joint in the neck. When scoring a bear, length and width measurements are taken from the skull.
Bird Hunters: DO NOT gut out. Rinse off any blood on the feathers with water. Stuff tissue down the throat to prevent drainage. Freeze in a plastic bag being careful not to bend the tail feathers.
Small Mammals: Freeze animals whole, DO NOT gut out. Small mammals especially carnivores, will spoil quickly because of their thin hides.
Caution When Caping: Moose, Elk, and Caribou . . . These mounts need an extra two feet of hide from behind the shoulders. (approx. area to include is most of the rib cage)
Game Heads:
- Hang from the antlers, not around the neck.
- Never cut the throat
- When caping, slit the hide circling the body behind the shoulder at approximately the mid-way point of the rib cage.
- Slit the skin around the legs just above the knees and cut along the back of the legs.
- Cut straight back behind the shoulder to the circling cut being careful not to cut through the shoulder or armpit area.
- Skin the animal down as close to the ears as possible before cutting through the neck-bone.
- After skinning, immediately hang the animal by the antlers. Never let the hide lay in a pile.
- Store the hide in a cold, dry, well ventilated area to prevent spoilage. Freeze if possible, if not, in warm weather, salt the hide and hang it to drain.
